  1. In my opinion sports has always been meant for entertainment. Even as far back as the folk game era, people used cock fighting and drinking games in order to entertain themselves and take their minds off of the hard lives people lead back then. I doubt they really had any kind of love for the sport in competitive drinking or cock fighting (if you can even consider those sports).

Today I think the majority of people watch sports they feel entertain them or that they can get involved in. At times the love for a sport isn't enough for some people. The most popular spectator sports are Football, Basketball and Baseball for many reasons. First, each on of these sports outcomes can be effected by the amount of noise made by the fans, not just because of the encouragement but the actual advantage of drowning communication between players, involving the fans in how the game will eventually play out. Another reason these particular sports have such a high fan base is because of how dramatic and unpredictable they can be.

I actually think the future looks bright for sports if people continue to turn to sports as a form of entertainment because it will ensure higher fan bases especially for the sports that don't get very much attention. I also like how athletes have become more like celebrities which will hopefully make them more accountable for their actions outside of their sport. However, sports as entertainment for consumers has also become too much of a money making business which is the only something that really scares me. Money has corrupted sports enough, so all we can do is hope that sports don't turn into one big messed up monopoly game.

  2. I feel that sport has become a just an entertainment. I believe the only age where sport is the youth level because even in high school some of the athletes are playing sports to be popular. Sports started as a thing to do that would be able to take people away from hard lives. It was a form of entertainment from the time it was started.
Players and consumers like to play and watch sports because it takes them away from the everyday life routines. Even for consumers they don't go for the love of the game they go because they can have a beer and forget about life for a while and be entertained. I don't think sports will ever get taken away but I do think that the money spent on sports has been one of the big factors that make athletes think they are god like. Money makes people greedy and when they start to play for just the money they are basically selling their body. The athletes start to do anything for money and it eventually leads to them hurting themselves or the game.
I think it is good that sports are seen as entertainment but there does need to be a salary cap on all professional athletes because sports could go downhill if more and more money continually gets dumped into the entertainment portion of sports. I wish that all professional athletes could go and watch youth teams play and hopefully be reminded why you play the game for, your own personal enjoyment and hopefully for the love and respect of the game.

  3. Personally, I think that sport has always been a form of entertainment for both the player and the fan. I think that since the world is changing the way that sport is seen as entertainment has change with the changing technology, etc. Like the essay said, they didn't think that ESPN would last because there probably weren't that many sports fanatics as they thought and come to find out... there were.
People have always been watching sports, just that it hasn't been on tv until it was found out that you could watch it on tv. The changing technology has made it possible for people to start seeing these events for free at home in their pj's if they want.
Sports players I think still play for the love of the game for sure. You cant just decided that they are going to be a professional player and make money. you have to have talent and obviously love of the game or else the person wouldn't be there. This is only how I feel because for me I don't play lacrosse or gold because I dont love it. I play tennis because I love it and it is my form of entertainment because it keeps me active, its fun, and I really enjoy it. This is what I think of how sport is an entertainment form for both the player and the fan.

  4. I think that sport as entertainment has really boomed in the last decade or so. Sport used to be on tv for the people to watch who couldn't make it to the game. Now sport is on tv for people to watch as entertainment. There are those people, however, who still watch sport on tv because they love the game and would rather watch a game then some reality tv show or a soap opera. But the number of people watching sport on tv for entertainment seems to be growing over the passionate sports fans.
As for the spectators at the games, I think there are many people who go to the games just for a family outing or because their friends are out of town and they have given them their season tickets for the weekend. It used to be a huge deal for young kids to get to go to the park and watch their favorite players that they see on baseball cards collected by never in real life. Nowadays kids aren't as excited to go to the games to watch the players as they are to get the mascots autograph and fill up on the junk food that their parents pay bunches of money for. I am and have always been a Boston Red Sox fan with family in Boston. I am proud to say that I am a member of Red Sox Nation and have been going to games at Fenway park since I can remember. I am one of the few fans left that go for the spectacle of knowing all the players names, home team or away, and seeing them walk onto the field for a night cap. I have touched Pesky Pole and have sat in the red seat in the right field bleachers named after Ted Williams. I can look at the different positions and picture in my head all of the great players that once played in that park and all of the home runs that have flown over the Green Monster. I am a fan for the game, not the entertainment that comes with it.
I know there are players that play the game for the money and the fame, but it is sometimes hard to pick them out. Others who have commercials on every channel and won't take the time to sign a ball for a young fan stand out like a sore thumb. It's pathetic how many people play for the money and don't even realize how many greats have built the game up before them. There are also the players that could get paid minimum wage and they would still be on the field night after night, year after year just because they love the game they play and can't get enough of it. They love the fans showing up and cheering until they have no voice left. The competition of trying to be the best team just to say they are, not for the endorsements that come with a series championship. I think most of the athletes today fall into this category. Or at least i hope they do.
With all of the extra entertainment stuff that goes along with the games today, I think the players are what make sports worth watching and playing. If this trend continues in the future, more and more players may be in the game for the fame and money, causing the fans to be more entertainment based than true to the heart fans, but I don't see that happening.

At this times I believe that sports has become a huge part of entertainment for everyone, by fact with the purpose of the worldwide population has determined of the television could be their first choice of entertainment, eliminating portion of the actually actives sports events. With that in other hand include the option to watch sport on TV, over their home averment. The TV/Cable/VCR/DVD has been the most important development of the twentieth century, and the TV has been showing the diversity of mutual sports such as football, basketball, baseball, volleyball and so on. In different prospects the American’s culture has actually determinate the advance of sports, however the primary option is the cable, where you actually has to paid to get the best quality of sport internment, on the other hand other country such as South America have the benefices to get for free sports networks, but it is not a 24/7. The love of the game is not as much as necessary for some people, but our society haven been dictated that each one of these sports outcomes can reproduce the love of the game made by the fans, but the actual advantage of the communication between players and fans.

  6. Today, most people view sports as entertainment. Most people participate and spectate games because they see it as entertainment and that they want to compete and try to be a stud or watch people celebrating after winning.

One example in America are brawls you see in sports. I don't understand why people like to watch two opposing sides beating up each other but that is a way of entertainment to most American sports fans. However, worldwide fans and participants don't watch or play because of the fights but because it is fun to play and watch such as soccer and tennis. People also like to play these sports because it keeps people in good health and takes away stress from work.

I think it is good that sports is an entertainment because it draws consumers in participating and playing and watching the games. One thing that needs to be changed among young Americans is viewing sports brawls as a way of entertainment. Violence is wrong and people should enjoy watching and competing because they love the game.

  7. Sport has become a huge entertainment. A lot of people love to watch sport and they can not live without watching it. For a lot of people watching sport on TV is the most important thing. In Russia the most famous sport to watch in the TV is soccer and people just crazy about it. Most of the people watch soccer because they used to play but did not play good enough to be on TV. Sport on TV is also good for people who is not able to go and watch match to the stadium. People who love sport they watch sport on TV and in real. If people watch or play sport it means people love doing it because without love the sport it is impossible to play or watch it on TV. I am playing tennis because I love it and I would not do it if I would not love it.

  8. I think our society is obsessed with entertainment and that includes sports. Regarding what I am about to say, I do think there are exceptions. I do think there are fans and players that do so for the love of the game and despise the entertainment side of sports. However, I would argue that the majority of fans today enjoy sports due to what it has to offer them. Who do they get to see perform at half-time, what kind of food or beverages will be offered, what kind of behavior is permissible, these are all examples of entertainment in sports. Spectators no longer just sit and enjoy a baseball game with their families. Fans are loud and disrespectful and if they top the last loud and disrespectful person, there is a possibility they could make TV and gain personal publicity. Sports are driven by selfish desires and increasing that bottom line. There is no doubt this will continue. I just hope that more people open their eyes find a love for the game. This will hopefully put more focus on the game itself instead of the players, the clothes one wears to the game, the food eaten or drank at the game, the half time show, etc.

  9. From my view point sport has not only become an entertainment, but also a huge business where the bug companies just commercialized sport to make money . I think, always sport was a sort of entertainment but with another purpose. Long time ago athletes do sport to develop their maximum potential in their athletes skills to reach their perfection as human being in sports. Therefore, they lived the real essences of sport. However, nowadays athletes just don’t want to be best to reach their highest peak of performances, but also to get a lot of money and be famous.
I think huge companies just want to athletes give an amazing athletic show with the aim of they make more profits with athletes, as a result these huge companies don’t care whether athletes take shortcuts such as do drugs, cheat, etc they just want to cover these problem to avoid the chaos in the public opinion because they won’t be able to sell their products.
They know that there are many maniacs who are going to do everything to be close or be informed about of the latest performances of their favorite’s athletes. Companies such as EPSN shows sport as an entertainment to people have fun, but not as a pure sport where people can learn some moral values to apply these values in the society. I think that must be the purpose of sport. Like Richard Crepeau said in his article “player are now entertainers. Games are programming. The money is creating millionaires who can never remember who they are…….” this thought shows the path that sports are taking nowadays. I would say these huge companies are going to continue denigrating the sport losing forever the real essence of sport just because that is the easiest way to make more money cover all the bad issues in the sport in order that fans consume their products.

  10. Sport became an entertinment because a lot of people watch sport and they can not live without it. Sometimes people will go to footbal just to communicate with other people and because they want to have fun. When people go to the tennis match they go usually to see the behavior of one of the player. For example when Safin was playing a lot of people were going to watch him because his behavior was bad. He was breaking rakets and screming doing unappropriate stuff which made people come watch him. In my opinion either athletes or fans will do and watch sport only because they love and emjoy it.

  11. I think that sport has changed dramatically especially over the last 2 decades. I feel that there are many professional athletes that really just want the spotlight to be on them. It is sad to see, but I really think that there are very few people playing professional sports that truely love the game. These athletes get so caught up in how much money they are going to make and what their next endzone dance is going to look like that they forget why they started playing the game in the first place. I know that most of these athletes had to have loved their sport at one time or another, I just think that they forgot how much fun they should and could be having. It is true that professional sports are designed for entertainment, but the athletes need to remember why they play the game.

  12. “Two views of ESPN”

I think the nature of sport is still more a physical and mental competition more than it is entertainment or a quest for show and fame. Adding the entertainment aspect has definitely made it more interesting and exciting to fans but I believe the fans are still out there to watch sport and not a show. If they wanted to watch a show they could go to a ballet or a movie theatre. A very high majority of athletes are out there to compete and achieve greatness through their sport. Of course there are the exceptional showboats with talent that they use to satisfy their craving for fame. This leaves the risk that sport will eventually just become a show, but I really don’t think that will ever fully happen because of all the strong, true athletes that are just striving to achieve great things in sport. All athletes have a natural sense of competition and it’s hard to ignore that and just put on a show. Athletes are just working to be their best and make the high school basketball team or be the best and win the world title. Sport is still about the sport; it’s just being played up to be prettier than it probably normally is.

  13. Sport absolutely has become majorly entertainment based. Most athletes do it for the money, not because they love it. And maybe that's not true for everybody, but if you really loved the game, you wouldn't be making hundreds of thousands of dollars doing it.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be the first female pro hockey player, not because I loved it, but because I wanted to be famous, rich, and get that way doing something easy. We've transfered the reasons we play the game from something "pure" if you will, to something personally beneficial. Yes, we all think about ourselves first, but now we try to go pro for greedy reasons-- the wrong reasons.

As far as the future goes, I don't really see how it could get any worse. I like sports, dont get me wrong, but we've already got the scandals, drugs, steroids, and greed... what else could we really do? I think sport will get better before it gets worse. I'm hoping it will anyways. The athletes should realize and respect that they are role models for lots of people (kids and adults) and should set the example. Sports are for exercise, competition, stress relief, and hopefully love. If you play, you should love it. You should play it for yourself or not at all.

  14. Sports to me has always been about entertainment. Spectators are becoming less involved in the actual game and more about how entertaining it is. The value of sports as an entertainment entity is undeniable. Fans as consumers have forced owners, coaches, and players to fall into this category of worrying about more than the game, but the entertainment value of the game and their team. The Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable professional football franchise despite not being to a Superbowl since the 90's. Making money in sports has superceeded winning and the way to make money in sports is to be entertaining. This value of entertainment that sports carries will not be going away, we are past players playing for the love of the game and not the paycheck(besides the select few that retain their old-school mentality of sport. This shouldn't ruin sports in the future, however it could tarnish the value that it has to those who resist this entertainment swing of sport.

  15. To me bein an athlete sports isnt just entertainment its for the love of the game, an really to me its not even entertainment unless im watchin the sport...But it seems like sports are becomin more for tv an the entertainment that there isnt the love for the game like there use to be.. It seems like when your at the young youth age the sport you play is because you like it an not because its entertaining but its when you gett to that age like freshman in high skool you kinda wanna play for so you can be popular.. I wish sports would be how it was when i was young

  16. To a certain extent, sport has always been there to entertain society. Most of society loves to see competition and a lot of the time the higher the level of sport, the more entertaining it becomes. We can see this in the early sports of this nation. Cock fighting, prize fighting and drinking had to be entertaining. Then, as time moved on, sports began to change and evolve into what we have today. Each sport's following got larger and some sports grew faster and larger then others. TV gave some sports more publicity and allowed more people to watch. ESPN showed up and allowed even more people to watch not only more of those same sports but a much more wide variety of sports. Now, because sport has become extremely famous through all the publicity inventions, does that mean that the athletes don't play for the love of the game any more? Maybe for some but I think the majority of the athletes that make it to a level that ESPN covers are still doing it for the love of the game. The majority of athletes don't get that far with out loving what they do. And, yes, the showmanship that a lot of these athletes have will always evolve into bigger and better acts and more and more people will be entertained which might fuel the fire to get better at what they do. But for the majority, the love of the game will still stands tall. I think it becomes obvious when an athlete stops loving what he or she does.

  17. I think that those who watch and cover sports do so primarily for entertainment purposes. There are a lot of spectators who watch sports to better themselves athletically and in those instances sport serves a function other than for entertainment. I do think that the players for the most part play “for the love of the game” because it demands so much physically and mentally. Obviously there are some serious financial incentives, however, if you are not good enough to play professionally you will not have a job. I think if this trend is to continue it will have some effects on sports. I think it could affect rules to promote more highlights such as the pro step in the NBA and the protection of quarterbacks in the NFL. ESPN is certainly moving into more entertainment and can have a tendency of sensationalizing stories because of the high-profile athletes that are in the sports world. I also saw Snoop Dogg on Sportcenter after they moved to LA fro Bristol. All in all, sports is an entertainment industry, and sports will continue to strive to make profit.

  18. I believe sports in America had become entertainment based proposition for some people and for others it is for the love of the game. People that aren’t well educated in sports and don’t know how much hard work and dedication it takes to become a good athlete look at it as entertainment. They watch it because they want to see the celebration dance that a player makes when he scores a touchdown. They watch because they want to see a windmill dunk. They don’t watch it to appreciate the game from a players and sports fanatic standpoint. People who follow the history of sport or who have participated in sports watch it and play the sport for the love of the game. People educated in sports have a more understanding of how hard it is to become a good athlete so when a player does celebrate a touchdown they look at it as more as a way for the player to show his emotion and love for the sport. I believe the Pro Bowl and NBA All Star game are played strictly for entertainment purposes, that’s why it is viewed by so many people world wide. I believe sports will continue to be entertainment for some as you have seen ESPN move to Hollywood, they are trying to target the age group of to who watches sports that’s why I believe ESPN moves to Hollywood. It was there way to entertain sports fans.

  19. This is kind of a hard question for me because i play sports cuz i love them. I dont really see it as entertaining myself. I like to play to win. But as far as fans go, it can be both also. Entertainment definitely is the reason why the majority of fans out there watch a sport. Fans can also watch it because they once played a sport and the only way to feel apart of it is to be a fan for the love of the game. As far for the future of the sport, entertainment is a great thing for this country for the most part. A few reasons are that it gives growing up kids a role model and dreams to hopefully someday be that person they are watching on tv, and for kids that live in a rough neighborhood, it could keep them from doing bad things that will make their life go down the drain. A bad thing that could happen with sports and entertainment is money. It corrupts sport already with gambling and shaving points, who knows who powerful that corruption can get in the future.

  20. Sport has always existed for it's entertainment purposes. I feel like the love of the game is only there for a few atheletes. There is the need to put on a good show, and to make the corporate sponsors money. It's the sad truth, but that's the nature of the beast in todays market.
I participate in sports because I love it, but I also feel I'm one of very few athletes who believe so. If you took away all the scholarships on campus do you think there would be many atheletes still here? I highly doubt it. The love of the game is long gone in a majority of athletes in all sports.
I don't think sport is at any risk of being less popular because of this, but I do think that some sports will start to fade out. I say this because we're still in the entertainment age of sport. I think in the future we will see sports like baseball start to fade, and more UFC and MMA sports rise more and more, sheerly for thier entertainment value.

  21. Modern sports have evolved from simple children games which were played simply for the fun and entertainment aspects. So there will always be an aspect of sports that has to do with the love of the game, and with an entertainment factor. you will always have a group of spectators that watch sports for the pure entertainment value, just as you will have a portion of athletes that play simply for the love of the game. no matter how ESPN or any major corporation tries to spin it,this will always be true. if sports do become to commercial people will stop watching and participating, which will cause force sport to swing back to a place that that the fans and competitors can agree upon. similar arguments were made when free agency in the NFL started. pessimists believed that these changes would destroy their beloved game. but by changing and being able to reach a median the NFL has reached an all time high.

  22. Although sports were established for entertainment purposes, I believe whoever participates in them or watches them develop a love for them. When I was younger I was in love with football before I could play the game, once I was able to play, the love developed into something stronger. Entertainment and “loving sports” go hand in hand. We watch a sport that entertains us mainly for its unpredictability, the adrenaline rush some give off, and the competitive edge, and the wide range of sports and teams. These aspects of sports play a role in why we love them, plus they are fun. For some, sports determine their future in terms of careers, education, finances, and moral character. Being involved in sports has its place in an individual’s character; it helps them stay out of trouble as well.

Sports take people out of the norm; it allows time for fun and entertainment. It gets them out of their everyday routine. On the other hand, participating is sports or watching them indefinitely have become a part of their everyday life. This is simple since there is a sport for every season. Many men I know dwell on sports for they bring them and their friends and family together to have fun. Athletes love them; I know some have to love them in order to play.

Overall, sports are for entertainment. Programs like ESPN have proven that America loves sports and enjoys the entertainment that the teams and players bring. There is no arguing that sports are for entertaining and that whoever watches or partakes in them develop and long lasting love for them.

  23. Sports is meant for entertainment. I mean i guess some poeple do it to be popular but i know i play basketball because i know i love the game. What else would sports be here for though? ENTERTAINMENT!!!! Without sports I do not know what this world would come two. Many athletes wouldnt be in school first of all. I do not see professional athletes playing the game for popularity. Im pretty sure the majority of professional athletes loves there sport.

  24. I think sports has become an entertainment based thing, if you look now espn has totally changed the way people look at sports. Some people who maybe used to watch the game wait till sportscenter comes on so that they may see who won, not to mention the top ten plays of the day. Me personally I love sports and play them because of the love now some people do it to be popular amongst there peers because they see the entertainment aspect of it, when if you are good your face could be put all over tv.

  25. As a form of entertainment, sports are very highly known as something that everyone could enjoy either watching or playing. Sports means entertainment because of the thrill, excitement, passion, and the love for the sport that each athlete plays. Athletes make their sport entertaining like for instance LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. They are the two top prestige players this year if not for the new generation. The plays and fun they show on the court is very entertaining and keeps every spectator and fan on their toes and wanting more. Since sports has changed around the world and it has become very famous to other countries, the fans and tv watchers looks foward to seeing something amazing or interesting that happens in sports because it is everyday life and what is a comfort zone for most of us today.

  26. For many people sports are definitely used as a form of entertainment. Just like anything we do, some people find sports more interesting than others do. Some people use sports as a social factor in their lives. Many people who watch sports are people who have grown up playing the game and continues to enjoy it simply for the love it.
I personally enjoy watching good match up of other teams, simply because I have a passion for football and enjoy watching the game being played. I like watching some others sports like baseball and basketball but I pay the most attention to football. I think that as the trend of media takes sports they are going to grow ever more popular as a mean of entertainment. It also begins a consumer role through the person who buys the memorabilia being sold, as well as tickets for games and all the things that go along with that.

  27. sports are a form a entainment, millions of people go to collegic and professional games for entertainment, and they want to be a part of something special... a game winning shot, a feild goal to win a game, or a large hit.

i do see as sports as a form of entertainment, people are attracted to the speed, power, and explosiveness of athletes. and quit frankly it is entertaining to see how athletic a human being can be. people that leave a golf tourny that Tiger Woods competed in are entertained with his outstanding ability to play the game.

overall profesional and collegic sports are true forms of entertainment. programs like espn and sports center are used to sell sports because programs like these understand that the target audience in todays generation want to watch sports and use them as a form of entertainment

Also do forget the half-time show, the food that’s been offer and served, what kind of behavior is acceptable, these are some of the examples of entertainment in sports.
Fans with a whole family no longer come to watch and enjoy a football game, because some of fans are too loud and disrespectful, and there is a chance that game would be on TV and that would be bad for publicity of image. Now hopefully they will put more focus on the itself instead of the players and the food or even though the half-time presentation.

  29. It is my belief that the true nature of sport has remained intact. With the implementation of the media, the availability of viewing, listening, and even learning about sports has skyrocketed. I agree with the premise that sport, for some, has become a primary source of entertainment. Many people who are uneducated about the game/games they watch or listen to fall into this category. If I were to view a soccer or cricket match, I would therefore fall into this category, as I would be just as uneducated as a wrestler watching ice-skating. As for the question regarding the future implications of sport: I feel if trends continue as they have been, sport will have a chance to explode onto the media/consumer market on an even larger level. Players like Lebron, Pujols, and Manning are looked at as superheroes, and who knows what type of athletes there will be in 2020…???

  30. sports are the main form of entertainment in our sociiety today. many families go to games, and have there kids play in sports because they feel like it will keep them out of trouble, and they will experience alof of excitement.
the joy of being in a game will a game winning shot, or touchdown can not be replaced, and when you are able to watch the games happen it is very fun. i watch and participate in sports everyday, and i also watch sports center every night to catch the special games.

  31. i feel that sports are treated as entertainment the older that you get. because when your younger i feel that everyone is doing it for the love of the game. as you get older your judgement gets cloudy and some coaches that players run into take the fun out of the game for them. and when that happens thatts when it becomes a downfall. i feel that the passion is there from some of the athletes but not like it used to be. i feel like athletes do it because its something that a lot of players have been doing there whole life and thats all they know.

  32. I feel like sports is the biggest source of entertainment. As an athlete, I play for the love of the game. It's not about popularity to the athletes, it's the they way they make their living, and in some cases it's all they know how to do. It's a job that happens to be very entertaining to those who spectate. I don't think there's an athlete that doesn't love their sport, but continues to participate for popularity. Doesn't make sense.

  33. I do believe that sports in America today have become entertainment based because there a lot more fans today and a lot more advertisements are going on. The games have changed a lot since the 50s and 60s. the players are not getting paid 10000 dollars a year any more they are making in the millions per year. I personally would like to see more players play for the love of the gaame because it would make the game a lot more interesting. Not all players in sports try to get the media involved and thats what the leagues need are a group of people who do play for the love of the game.

  34. I think that there is a mix between people playing sports solely for entertainment and playing for the love of the game. I also think it depends on which sport you are looking at. For example, I think that in the NBA, there are many more athletes that play for entertainment, also, Terrell Owens is a good example of someone who is definitely out to entertain. I think that all of the endorsement deals contribute to the entertainment aspect of the game.

  35. Sports has been evolving ever since it was created. In the beginning, people have played sports for the love of the game. But since we are now in the modern era where we have ESPN, and Sports Center, that it's been about the entertainment. There are athletes who pursue their sport just to become professionals and make millions. There are even some athletes like the NBA that sit on the bench for a season and still make like around $50 million dollars a year. So where do we really cross the line? Although, I do still believe that there are some athletes who play their sport because they are passionate about it. Some have sacrificed so much time, personal things, and other things just to become where they are at right now. They also are making so much money, but still enjoy it. Who doesn't want to become a professional athlete for the sport they do and still make lots of money? In conclusion, there is a mix between playing sports for entertainment and for the love of the game.

  36. In my opinion when it comes to sport as entertainment I believe that it is something that has changed over time e and is strongly related to competition. Back in the beginning of sport I think that the games and competitions were only for both recreation and simply beating someone in a specific event. As times changed and people started watching these games it became a form on entertainment for the spectators. Then once media came into the picture everything started to get more serious. NFL players started dancing in the end zone and players were getting interviewed on espn. I definitely think that sports are still recreational and very competitive. On the flip side I think that in the midst of all this there is a lot of unnecessary entertainment based acts that occur.

  37. I think sports is being played for entertaining people but some players play it for the love of the game and they show it by playing with passion. I also think it depends on which sport you are looking at. For example, in the NBA, there are many more athletes that play for entertainment to show off to their fans, on the other hand, Terrell Owens is a good example of someone who is definitely out to entertain and also a good football player but not one of my favorites.

  38. Sports every day is becoming more and more entertainment based, whether people want it to happen or don't. It's a simple fact in today's society because sports is so global now. Television and internet capabilities have marketed sports into a worlwide topic, and owners of these teams understand this. Merchandise is made by athletes and teams being successful, and this message is more prominent in more of the minds of the athletes of today. If it was just abou the "love of the game", they wuldn't be worried about million dollar contracts. I'm not saying that they don't deserve what they make, just that certain factors of motivation have turned more economical because of the lucrative possibilities.

The future of sports is in good shape if this focus on entertainment continues because that's what the fans want to see. The fans hold the key to successful business in this area because they are the funders of the sports world. If they do no find sport entertaining, they wont bother to watch. I feel like although athletes are paid millions of dollars, they will still play for "the love of it". Even if this love they have is indeed money related, they still in fact love their sport because they understand that without it they wouldn't be able to make the money they love. The number of athletes who do it specifically for the blood, sweat, and tears are fewer and far between then what they used to be, but those athletes are in fact the one's that become the most entertaining, because the game to them is life or death. There is no half-hearted effort, or sitting out of practice or holding out of games because they don't feel like they are paid enough. The one's who give it their all to be successful are the one's fans will be entertained by and will pay to see.

  40. i fill that there are player that play for the love of the game and some play for the love of the game. i think that once you get to the top and have made a name for your self its alot easier to lose the love and let the money and entertaiment factor take over.

  42. I find it very discomforting as sports today has become something else rather than what it was intended on....sports...the pure enjoyment of the competition and the joy of winning. But in todays society that lifestyle has dramatically changed. The sports era that we live in only engulfs the soceity around us as an entertainment. The gatherings behind this entertainment. For me i will continue to play certain sports for the joy of it itself. Not for entertaining. I mean many can argue that yes there are certain individuals that have entertainment skills such as athletes as kobe and tiger but its the fact that they love the game so much and playing it for quite some time has led to that. Its entertainment with the love of the game mixed in.

  43. Sports now days have really changed to what it use to be. Many players out there are now playing for the money instead of the playing for the love of the sport. sports are intertaining but not when intertainment takes the sport to a whole new level. Its just not the same anymore.
